iSalg | Overview | Security Software | Spam | SPAMfighter
SPAMfighter's main function is obviously to remove spam from your inbox. SPAMfighter is using different methods to detect and block spam e-mails. The most important is a database at SPAMfighter's server, which contains information about spam e-mails. In addition to the database, you can choose local settings on your own PC.
When you click the button Block in SPAMfighter's toolbar, you will send information about the e-mail to SPAMfighter's server. When a certain amount of users has reported the same e-mail as spam, it is automatically blocked for everyone using SPAMfighter.
SPAMfighter contains a whitelist where you can add people or domains whose messages you do not want to be blocked. Typically, you will want to add all your contacts to the whitelist. Conversely, you can use a blacklist to block e-mails from specific senders or from specific domains.
The filters accepts wildcard characters, thus you can enter addresses, such as * @ *. ch, or * @ *. ru into the blacklist in order to block all e-mails from China or Russia.
SPAMfighter can analyze the language used in an e-mail so you can block e-mails in languages that you do not understand, or languages that you are not interested in receiving e-mails in. You can easily choose which languages not to accept, or you can specify which languages you want to accept.
SPAMfighter will not only block spam, it will also block phishing attacks where the sender will try to steal your money or other valuables from you. Phishing is where scammers are pretending to be your bank or another legitimate business, and they will typically entice you to enter your login information or other information they can use to steal from you. SPAMfighter will move phishing e-mails into the SPAMfighter folder.
SPAMfighter only requires 64 MB RAM and 10 MB free hard disk space. This means that SPAMfighter can run on virtually all PCs from this century and even on some of those from the last century.
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2010. Outlook Express 5.5 or later. Windows Mail (only 32-bit), and Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0, 3.0, and 3.1.
The SPAMfighter installation file is less than 2 MB.
SPAMfighter is available in 21 different languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, German, French, Italian, Greek, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Suomi, Japanese, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Polish, Czech, Thai, and Turkish.
When you download SPAMfighter Pro, you will get a 30 days free trial. You then get the choice to buy the program and continue with the extra features of the pro version, or you can continue with the free version.
You can only use the free version for private purposes, i.e. not in businesses, organisations, etc.
The free version contains fewer features than the pro version. It is not possible to choose or block e-mails based on the used language, you can only have 100 addresses and domains in the whitelist and blacklist filters, you do not have free telephone support.
The biggest reason to avoid the free version is probably that it inserts advertising for SPAMfighter in all your e-mails, and that is not very pretty. The free version also inserts an advertisement in SPAMfighter's toolbar.
